What it costs

Garage door panel replacement cost

Typical

$280 – $900

Most jobs land near $480 · per panel, fitted

$280 to $900 for one panel fitted, and the labour is the small half. The real question is whether the panel can still be bought: on a door more than about ten years old the model is often discontinued, and a mismatched section is both obvious and a worse door.

What is in the price

  • The section itself
  • Removing the damaged one and fitting the new
  • Rebalancing and re-testing the door

FactorWhat it does to the number
Which panelThe bottom one is most often hit and is also the one carrying the cable brackets, which makes it the most labour.
Whether it is still madeA current model is a stock item. A discontinued one means a custom section, a longer wait and a colour that may not match.
Insulated or notAn insulated section costs roughly half again as much as a plain steel one.
How manyTwo damaged sections on an older door usually costs more than half a new door, at which point it stops being a repair.

When not to bother

The point where repairing is the wrong call

Two or more damaged panels, or any damaged panel on a door over fifteen years old. A new section on a faded door also never matches — sun changes the colour of the rest.
