What it costs
Garage door panel replacement cost
Typical
$280 – $900
Most jobs land near $480 · per panel, fitted
$280 to $900 for one panel fitted, and the labour is the small half. The real question is whether the panel can still be bought: on a door more than about ten years old the model is often discontinued, and a mismatched section is both obvious and a worse door.
What is in the price
- The section itself
- Removing the damaged one and fitting the new
- Rebalancing and re-testing the door
What moves it
Why two quotes differ
| Factor | What it does to the number |
|---|---|
| Which panel | The bottom one is most often hit and is also the one carrying the cable brackets, which makes it the most labour. |
| Whether it is still made | A current model is a stock item. A discontinued one means a custom section, a longer wait and a colour that may not match. |
| Insulated or not | An insulated section costs roughly half again as much as a plain steel one. |
| How many | Two damaged sections on an older door usually costs more than half a new door, at which point it stops being a repair. |
When not to bother
The point where repairing is the wrong call
Two or more damaged panels, or any damaged panel on a door over fifteen years old. A new section on a faded door also never matches — sun changes the colour of the rest.
